Thanks to its modular design, the BIOVENT® hygienic valve guarantees optimum adaptation to your system and combines freedom from dead space with perfect cleaning options. The hygienic design with extremely low maintenance and at the same time high efficiency and precision of the control valve ensures maximum cost-effectiveness with the lowest total costs of ownership. The hygiene design is well thought out down to the smallest detail. It is CIP-capable and ensures that any residue is drained, so that cleaning problems, oxidation damage or carry-over during media change are ruled out. The FDA-compliant seals guarantee flush sealing with the housing wall. The dynamic sealing of the valve stem with a special combination sealing element prevents the ingress of foreign bodies as well as damage to the stem and the bearing. The precision trims are optimized in terms of shape and material to meet your requirements. In addition to hygiene, BIOVENT® guarantees uncomplicated adaptation to changing operating conditions through an exchangeable control plug and the clamped valve seat.
This is what distinguishes BIOVENT® hygienic valves:
- Powerful valve actuator
- Wide variability in housing types and connections
- Hygienic housing and stem sealing
- Robust precision trims

BIOVENT® hygienic valve trims
Standard parabolic plug with metal seal
For laminar or turbulent flow, the single-stage, dirt-resistant parabolic plug is the best choice. Viscous media as well as media with fruit content can easily be controlled with this version. The linear or equal percentage control plug is placed in the fully cleanable spherical housing. The valve seat seals metallically and the plug is made from one piece.

Parabolic plug with V-ring soft seal
If the hygienic valve is also used as a shut-off device, the highest possible leak-tightness is produced by a V-ring soft seal made of EPDM or FPM. The clamping forces are absorbed via the metallic support. The tension-free installation of the seal increases the service life. The secure fixation of the soft seal allows it to be used with a vacuum or high flow rates.

Perforated plug
In the case of particularly critical pressure conditions, a perforated plug is used as a special version. Due to the large number of holes in the perforated plug, the flow is divided into numerous small cavitating streams, which meet and implode in the centre of the plug. This protects the trim and housing and reduces the noise level.

Stem sealing with combi sealing element
The polished and roller-burnished valve stem is sealed by a specially developed combination sealing element with wiper ring. The wiper ring protects the sealing element and bearing from the ingress of flushing liquid and particles. This prevents medium from being carried over or abrasive particles from being crushed or ground between the stem and the bearing.

Stem sealing with sterile lock
The sterile lock, which can be applied with steam or other sterilizing media, protects the product space against the outside atmosphere. It is pressurized on the pressure side in such a way that the medium always remains on the “sterilized” side.
Housing types and connections of the hygienic valve
-
Housing shapes and connections of the hygienic valve
Angle valve with welding stubs (Type391-P1-L)
This design is the inexpensive standard version of the Biovent® hygienic valve. The angle valve consists of a spherical housing with pipe connection and a vertical valve inlet with integrated valve seat. The flow direction is always against the direction closing
of the plug. -
Housing shapes and connections of the hygienic valve
Straight-way control valve with round thread (type 391-P1-BO)
This design consists of two spherical housings, each with one connection. The valve seat is clamped as a separate component between the housing halves of the straight-globe control valve. This makes it quick and easy to replace. The clamping ring connections allow the arbitrary alignment of the two pipe connections. The round threads are manufactured according to DIN 11851.

Housing shapes and connections of the hygienic valve
Straight-way control valve with flanged end (type 391-P1-BM)
This design of the ARCA hygienic valve consists of two spherical housings, each with one connection. The valve seat is clamped between the two halves of the housing as a separate component that can be easily replaced. For larger nominal sizes or Cv values, we recommend a second, lower guide for the control plug to prevent vibrations.
-
Housing shapes and connections of the hygienic valve
Three-way valve with tri-clamps as a flow mixer (type 391-M-WM)
This valve design also consists of three identical spherical housings, each with a pipe connection. Both valve seats are clamped between the housing parts. This three-way valve can also be used as a flow mixer or as a flow divider, as shown on the right.
-
Housing shapes and connections of the hygienic valve
Three-way valve with different connections as a flow divider (type 391-T-WM)
This three-way valve is designed with a maximum Cv value and linear characteristic at both control plugs. Optionally, differently graded cvs values are possible. This hygienic valve is ideal for use as a flow divider.

Multi-stage valve with welded ends (type 391-P3-BM)
This multi-stage valve is combined with two spherical housings, each with one connection and a specially shaped valve seat. This is fixed with clamping rings between the two housing parts. The control unit is particularly suitable for the pressure reduction of liquids with high differential pressure in order to avoid cavitation with all its disadvantages.
